Welcome to the Romance HelpDesk.
Allow me to introduce myself a little bit before I go about answering questions. My name is Pat East and I am currently a Junior at the University of Illinois studying Rhetoric and working at the university's main tech support HelpDesk.
How does that make me qualified to give romantic advice?
Simple. It doesn't. I am no sexologist, tantric master, or Casanova. Nor do I have fifty years of sexual/romantic experience under my belt. Even so, I have been used as the first romantic advice resource for quite a few people that I have known personally and through the web. I figure they wouldn't keep coming back if there wasn't something valuable that they gained from my advice.
I am not coming to this as a master who knows everything there is to know about love, romance, relationships, or sex. I am learning new things all the time, both from the woman I love and from trial and error. I approach romantic advice like tech support. To solve a problem, I take what I know from personal experience, apply it to research, and offer a possible solution. It won't be perfect, but it's a start.
What subjects do I cover and give advice on?
I will attempt to give advice on anything related to romance, whether that be issues regarding relationships, courting, sexuality (technical or otherwise), and even self exploration. Nothing is too great or too small a question. I don't care if you want to get advice on what to do for a date or how to become the most attractive man/woman in the world, I will do what I can to help you.
Do you have a question or a problem you'd like me to address?
If you have subject that you would like me to tackle, leave a comment or send an email to blackromance@gmail.com. Comments are open to anyone, so if you'd like to leave an anonymous question, feel free to. I will address all questions publically on this blog, so don't hope to get an email response. Also, depending on demand, I may not get to answer all questions. I will try, but I cannot promise anything.
How often do I plan on updating?
I plan on updating at least two or three times a week. If I do not have any questions from readers, I will probably post something from my own quest for knowledge, so that shouldn't be too hard. However, I am a working student with a relationship and a life, so my schedule is likely to be erratic. I apologize ahead of time.
